June

Winter might be over. Maybe. We had a frost warning last night, I can't recall one in June since we moved here 9 years ago. I'll have to go poke at the beans and tomatoes in the garden and see how they made out.

I added apple hats to the shop:

Sometimes the models work very willingly, other times you realize you are chasing them around the kitchen and decide still images might work better :)

I received some wonderful photos from a fantastic bride:

Wishing her and her new husband a lifetime of happiness!

Dog Days of Summer

How did it get to be August?? Knitting is keeping me out of trouble - I'm working on my 100th pair for the season and building inventory. I added a new mitten to the shop - Thrummed Mittens Sock Monkey Style:

I also did a set of 6 pairs of mittens for a bridal party for a wedding coming up in February 2015. You have to adore a bride so well organized!

145 to go

I set an unofficial goal on January 1st to make 200 pairs of mittens in 2014. I decided all pairs would count. So if an adult large counts as one pair a small children's pair will also count as one. This pair is number 55

Thrummed Mittens

Thrummed Mittens, drummed Mittens, stuffed mittens. Whatever you call them, they can't be beat for warmth and coziness! When making thrummed mittens, the knitter inserts tufts of unspun wool (roving) at selected points. This makes a little "V" on the outside of the mitten. On the inside it makes a warm thick layer to line the mitten. Over time this layer of roving felts and makes the mitten more resistant to both wind and water.
I have been on a thrumming kick this fall and you can find several pairs on my etsy site www.etsy.com/shop/mandasmittens
